commercial  Thuringowa Central, 2009The Department of Child Safety's new building is the result of a public-private partnership with the aim of providing an attractive, functional and inviting office environment. The design concept was to create a simple, compelling dialog between building and its locality reinforcing the street alignment with a minimum number of 'building parts'. The parts, set in a dynamic and engaging way were then further refined to their optimum functional and climatic performance. The projected entry conference room that is suspended above the building entry has a back lit polycarbonate skin facing busy Sturt Street. The building design promotes a strong and innovative corporate image set comfortably within its urban settings and tropical location. Our aim was to create a sculptural building form that takes full advantage of the unique riverfront location. Riverview tavern is the first building that combines a quality river access with extensive entertainment deck areas and is a significant contributor to the choice and quality of outdoor entertainment in Townsville. New levels were built as a light weight structure with generous atriums, roof decks and skylights. Mixed use has been created by the new street retail frontage. The achieved outcome is fully leased, vibrant business hub in the hart of Surry Hills with close proximity of public transport. Townsville BMW / Mini Garage is an example of re-adaptive use of 50 year old bakery shed and its transformation into the contemporary warehouse.
