commercial Thuringowa Central, 2009The Department of Child Safety's new building is the result of a public-private partnership with the aim of providing an attractive, functional and inviting office environment. The design concept was to create a simple, compelling dialog between building and its locality reinforcing the street alignment with a minimum number of 'building parts'. The projected entry conference room that is suspended above the building entry has a back lit polycarbonate skin facing busy Sturt Street. Our aim was to create a sculptural building form that takes full advantage of the unique riverfront location. New levels were built as a light weight structure with generous atriums, roof decks and skylights. Mixed use has been created by the new street retail frontage.
