CLT - CENTRAL LECTURE THEATRE I 2014

The Central Lecture Theatre (CLT) is a stand alone, single level building designed by Ian Black and Company and built around 1975 at JCU campus in Townsville. The interior refurbishment intent was to transform the scale and perception of the space by modifying what is already there: the existing ceiling is extended over the side walls while the unified colour treatment diminishes spatial boundaries between floor, walls and ceilings. What was small and many - became large and one. The new surfaces are seamless maximizing the sense of fluidity. The rear, acoustic wall presents as a piece of integrated artwork, contextual to the place.
